ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – On Tuesday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul took a moment to admonish the protests that have turned violent.

She said that people have the right to protest – but vandalism, harassment, and the destruction of property cross a line.

“So, what we need to do is de-escalate the situation, restore a sense of normalcy on campus, and be sure that every student is safe and unharmed. The State of New York has offered our universities any assistance, should they need them,” said Hochul.

Hochul said that every student has the right to a graduation and that it shouldn’t be taken away like it has at other schools seeing protests erupt over the last weeks.

She offered schools support from the state to increase security and plan for in-person commencements.
