BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A last chance to say thanks to those who maintain Vermont’s snowmobile trails – nominations for the annual VAST awards close on Wednesday.

Maintaining Vermont’s 5,000 miles of snowmobile trails each season is hard work, and it’s all at the hands of volunteers, riders, and landowners.

You can nominate snowmobilers, trail volunteers, trailblazers, groomers, clubs, and other instrumental roles that make the snowmobile season take off every year.

VAST members say it’s easy for volunteers to be overlooked and they want to make sure they’re recognized.

“The trails all of a sudden show up, right? It’s December 15, or Christmas time, and the stakes are put in the ground, and trail is groomed, and you go ride it and that’s totally fine. That’s that’s great. But it’s easy to overlook how that white highway got there, and the work behind it, and then it goes to summer months. And this is we’re getting into work season now,” said Nathan Lafont of Green Mountain Roamers.
