BEEKMANTOWN, N.Y. (WCAX) – New charges were filed against Hilary Davis in Beekmantown court this evening. Davis owns A Canine Gem, with 49 dogs seized from her business in February.

She plead not guilty to two new counts of animal cruelty and one count each of scheming to defraud and false advertising.

Prosecutors also requested to stop her from owning or keeping dogs but that motion was rejected by the judge.

In total, Davis is facing 59 charges, seven of which are felonies.

Also in attendance, seated directly behind Davis, were representatives from the Elmore SPCA. Rebecca Patnode, who is the executive director at the shelter, says they were there to stand against the alleged animal cruelty.

“Animals are suffering under these types of rescues. This isn’t the first one in New York State recently and we want people to know that animal cruelty will not be tolerated,” said Patnode.

Davis will be back in court on June 12th.
