BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The first expected class of freshmen at the future Burlington High School got a sneak peek at the building on Thursday.
Sixth graders at Edmunds Middle School got a tour of what their future digs will look like, and went over the construction plans.
“It’s new. And it’s really big, and it’s really cool,” said Emery Burns, a sixth grader at Edmunds Middle School.
Burns is part of the class of 2030, the first class expected to attend all four years in the new building.
“If I had to go to the Macy’s though, Macy’s high schoolers are going through right now, I would, but it was it’s really cool that they’re building a new school,” Burns said.
Students were able to ask the project team questions and see inside plans for the school, including some crowd favorites.
“Just from seeing like, there’s a 3D design that we saw, the cafeteria looks so cool,” said Dante McCarron, a sixth grader.
“The gym,” said Dai Duong Nguyen, a sixth grader. “Because I want to make history when I’m a freshman… I want to make varsity as a freshman over basketball and I want to win the championship, too.”
The project is quickly evolving with metal beams going up this week building the bones of the long-awaited school.
“All these giant like, like metal beams and like cranes are like, almost touching the sky. And all these different like vehicles and things and like this construction team is I can tell us but like a lot of work into what they’re doing,” McCarron said.
The district plans to bring the same students back each year to see how the project is evolving.
