MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – Middlebury Police are dialing in to the community’s most vulnerable. Their new “Project Good Morning” facilitates regular phone calls with locals who live alone or without regular care. Starting at a police station in New Hampshire, the idea has spread to several stations throughout Vermont. Middlebury residents can sign up to receive a daily call between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday. Police say they hope it encourages independent living, and prevents tragedies common among those without an immediate support system.
“Maybe we would get there in time because they missed our phone call, they missed our check in that day. And maybe we could save a life. Maybe we can save someone from some real suffering.” said Chief Jason Covey
Covey says they’re already fielding calls from interested residents. Project Good Morning kicks off June 1st.
