MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont Gov. Phil Scott signed several bills into law on Monday, including one that loosens professional licensing requirements for immigrants. H.606 allows people to obtain professional licenses regardless of their immigration status. The governor said the legislation makes it easier for people to fill out Vermont’s workforce.
The Republican governor also allowed a truth and reconciliation bill to go into law without his signature. H.649 creates affinity groups where people who experienced discrimination can meet with the truth and reconciliation committee behind closed doors. There were concerns it would violate the open meeting law and remove the commission’s transparency.
The governor on Monday also signed:
H.27 – An act relating coercive controlling behavior and abuse prevention orders
H.350 – An act relating to the Uniform Directed Trust Act
H.629 – An act relating to changes to property tax abatement and tax sales
H.861 – An act relating to reimbursement parity for health care services delivered in person, by telemedicine, and by audio-only telephone and extending time for flood abatement reimbursement
H.884 – An act relating to the modernization of governance for the St. Albans Cemetery Association
