BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – With natural disasters on the rise, Vermont is joining states across the country in putting insurance claim information under the scope.

That data collection will help offer insights into the property insurance market in the state, including the cost and gaps in protection.

The data call requires insurers to report information to regulators and have it sorted by homeowners’ zip codes.

The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation says they’re committed to keeping insurance affordable and available in Vermont, and say this program will help them understand the insurance needs in the state.
