BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Senator Peter Welch is reaping what he sows as he touts the Senate’s latest farm bill.

The Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act is the newest farm bill from the Senate, and this week, Vermont’s junior Senator took to the floor to urge the House to pass it.

Welch highlighted how the bill will help farmers and rural communities, not to mention the benefit to regional food systems across the country.

He also emphasized his work to support small-scale Vermont farms, saying this bill is vital to keep farmers fed and working.

“It’s the most important legislature that we take up to support rural America. The small towns across our entire country that sustain our agricultural sector do so much for our economy and do so much for sustaining important personal and patriotic values,” said Welch.

Welch is the chair of the Senate Agriculture Subcommittee on Rural Development and Energy and has introduced several bills to support farming and rural communities – all of which are featured in the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act.
