THETFORD, Vt. (WCAX) – The Hot Air Balloon Festival in Thetford kicked off this weekend at the Post Mills Airport.

Balloon enthusiasts created their own hot air balloons.

It was founded by Brian Boland around twenty years ago. Boland died in 2021 after a hot air balloon accident. Several attended the event Saturday morning.

For some it was their first time but others are happy to return.

“It’s just a lot of fun you know it’s a pretty interesting thing the person who originally started this Brian Boland which is his airport, it’s just really interesting and kind of get a lot of people into doing more things and experiment and stuff you know I have a bunch of other balloon and decided to get one of these and come to this and have fun here,” Patrick Sullivan said.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival will happen again Sunday at 6 am and 6 pm.
