BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – As summer heats up, health officials want to make sure everyone takes care of their skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
Vermont has the second highest incidence rate of melanoma in the country, according to the Vermont Department of Health. To combat this issue, the Vermont Cancer Coalition is expanding a program that provides access to free sunscreen in parks across the state.
There will be 16 new dispensers added to parks in 10 counties.
Experts say the best way to protect yourself is to use sunscreen, seek shade during the middle of the day, and cover up with clothing, hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses.
