15th Anniversary of Tuck’s Rock Dojo

FAIRLEE, Vt. (WCAX) – Tuck’s Rock Dojo and Catamount Arts has been busy the past few months getting ready to put on a free festival at Lake Morey Resort in Fairlee on June 29th.

The festival will feature two stages of musicians with current students and alum all coming together, celebrating Tuck’s Rock Dojo’s 15th year of teaching and making music. Photojournalist Kerri nelson introduces us to a few of the bands and gives us a glimpse of what the rock dojo is all about.

The Bands : “Ragged” / “Last Jet” / “Do Not Microwave” are practicing for a big music fest.

“It’s going to be a bunch of bands. Current other bands that are just from the communities, and we’re going to be celebrating the 15th anniversary of Tuck’s Rock Dojo.

“We get to play on like, pretty big stages in front of, like, tons of people, the biggest and cool stage I’ve ever been on.”

“We’ve had a lot of shows over the couple of years that we’ve done this, but this is like a big show and it’s going to be really fun.”

Tuck Stocking is the owner of ‘Tuck’s Rock Dojo’

“There are six current dojo bands that will be there. All the alumni that are coming back, some of them have never played with others of them. Everybody will be mixing and even to the point where, like some of the people that haven’t graduated get to play with those people from, far away and long ago,” said Stocking, “And when I get to play with some of those all star bands and finally get to meet back up with those people who are so talented, that’s going to be so much fun to play with them again.”

“The community here is really great. And my favorite, always my favorite part of the day is coming here and being able to play music. And it’s just such an amazing experience to be able to play with a whole bunch of other people and make music that sounds good. It’s really fun to be part of a community of people who love to do the same thing as you.”

“I mean, I’d say there’s there’s no other feeling like performing on stage, especially when you’re with band mates. and you can feel really nervous, like five minutes before. And then when you actually start playing and you can just look over. And when I look over at my other bandmates and they just smile at me, I’m like, oh yeah, we’ve got this. It’s gonna be fun.”

“We put together this thing and we’re going to do it basically all by ourselves in front of all these people. It’s incredible to see how how big this place has become, instead of just the inside of just the music school down the road in the middle of nowhere. And, it is now the music school down the road.”

Families will be able to enjoy other festivities while listening to bands like Hans Williams, Brooks Hubbard and Shy Husky. They are also raffling off a PRS guitar.
