MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Progress is being made on Montpelier’s new post office.
A space on the first floor of the City Center building will be the new home for the U.S. Postal Service in Montpelier after last year’s flooding tore through the federal building.
The postal service is leasing the space from the Vermont League of Cities and Towns while some of their staffers are working remotely.
Leaders in Montpelier say the community has been without a post office for almost a year and it’s long overdue.
“They had mentioned they thought would be open by summer. It’s hot out there. We are hoping they will be open as soon as they can. We don’t know what their timeline is, they have not been big communicators. Once they’re open, that will be great,” Montpelier City Manager Bill Fraser said.
There’s no word yet on what the plans are for the old federal building.
