New Hampshire man arrested in Vermont bank robbery

NEWPORT, Vt. (WCAX) – Police have arrested a New Hampshire man in connection with a bank robbery in Vermont.

Newport police say it happened at about 9:45 a.m. on Monday at the Passumpsic Savings Bank on Gardner Street in Newport.

Investigators say Barry English, 38, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed a note to a teller demanding cash in large bills. They say he threatened the staff and warned them he had a gun but did not show it. They say English left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and took off toward New Hampshire.

Police spotted his car on Interstate 93, where he led them on a pursuit before they stopped him in Plymouth.

English is charged with robbery and assault.
