Developer abandoning stalled Plattsburgh housing project

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – After years of legal battles over redeveloping Plattsburgh’s Durkee Street Parking Lot to create new housing, the current developers say they are abandoning the stalled project.

The project, which has been supported by the city, would transform the parking lot into upwards of 100 housing units and commercial space.

But Opponents of the project, including the Plattsburgh Citizens Coalition oppose the development because of potential environmental impacts.

In one of the latest legal setbacks, a judge last summer said developers did not have an adequate plan for soil testing.

Now, the developer, Prime LLC., says they are not onboard with the project.

Plattsburgh Mayor Chris Rosenquest says the city remains committed to redeveloping the property.
