WASHINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A man wanted by Colchester police for allegedly dragging an officer with a car is now also wanted by Vermont State Police in a separate incident where he is accused of leaving the scene of an accident and almost hitting a police cruiser.
Andrew Brace, 39, of St. Albans, faces multiple potential charges in the Colchester case, including aggravated assault and eluding police. It stems from an incident Thursday morning when police were called to Conquest Circle at about 4:20 a.m. for a report of two people in a car who were unresponsive. Officers found the car had been reported stolen out of Burlington.
Police say they managed to wake up one man in the car, who they later identified as Brace. But when they tried to take him into custody, they say he threw the car in reverse, dragging a Colchester officer about 50 feet.
They say he then sped off.
The officer had injuries that were not life-threatening.
Now, Vermont State Police are also looking for Brace for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident.
Troopers say just before 10 a.m. Sunday, they got a report of a car on Tilton Road in Washington with two people inside who had overdosed.
Police say Brace was the driver, and he took off when emergency crews responded.
Investigators say Brace crashed into a car in a separate driveway, almost hit a police car and then took off toward Barre.
Police are asking for help finding Brace. They say he is 5′11″ and about 220 lbs.
The stolen car Brace was driving is a dark blue Genesis G809 with Colorado license plate D0UT58.
