LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – Officials in New York’s village of athletes are still holding out hope for a third Olympic games.
officials at the Olympic Regional Development Authority, or ORDA, say Lake Placid is among three finalists that could be selected as an alternative for the 2026 sliding games.
Italy, which is hosting the games, is currently without a track for bobsled, luge, and skeleton. However, ORDA says construction has begun on a new track and that an alternative host city will be picked in October.
“We hope that Milano Cortina is able to achieve their construction and host it there, but if not, we are certainly here to support and help provide solutions,” said ORDA CEO Ashley Walden.
The IOC has given Italy a deadline of March next year for construction to be complete.
