BARRE CITY, Vt. (WCAX) – The Northern Border Regional Commission is doling out $27 million in awards as part of its Catalyst Program spring competition.
The money is divided into 33 “catalyst awards” that go to communities in our region working on a broad range of economic development initiatives.
One award will go to Barre City to address the region’s housing crunch that’s been made worse by recent flooding.
“This transformative project will create over 125 mixed-income housing units in Barre City, and not only provide new places to live for those impacted by last year’s floods, but also grow our tax base and create much-needed workforce housing for teachers, nurses, and other professionals being recruited to the area,” said Barre City Manager Nicolas Storellicastro.
