High-flying fun in Fair Haven for RC pilots

FAIR HAVEN, Vt. (WCAX) – The Rutland County RC Flyers’ annual air show took off Friday morning at the former municipal airport in Fair Haven.

The planes range from gas and electric models to custom builds imitating wartime and civilian aircraft.

Pilots pay $20 to land and take off from the small landing strip. Proceeds go to the town of Fair Haven.

“A lot of people come out here for the camaraderie, they like to be out here with the guys. Sometimes they don’t fly a lot, they’ll just come out here and hang out and talk. It’s very therapeutic for a lot of us,” said Michael Murphy, the president of the Rutland County RC Flyers.

The show lasts through Sunday. Organizers expect appearances from pilots from around New England and Canada.
