Court ruling clears way for Higher Ground move

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A South Burlington concert venue can move to Burlington’s South End. That was the ruling from the Vermont Supreme Court on Friday, siding with Burton and Higher Ground.

Higher Ground wants to move its music venue from Williston Road in South Burlington to an 11,000-square-foot facility in Burlington’s South End owned by Burton.

Neighbors opposed to the relocation argued it didn’t fit the space, would be too loud and would cause traffic issues.

But the high court rejected those arguments, letting the environmental court’s decision stand.

The move was first proposed in September 2020 and has been held up by legal battles since then.
