State leaders advocate for the Warehouse Worker Protection Act

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – With Amazon Prime Day underway, online shopping is heating up. While you may want your delivery ASAP, local senators are trying to make sure it’s not too fast for safety.

Senators Peter Welch and Bernie Sanders are supporting the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, which would ban unsafe work speed quotas.

Welch says these quotas can increase workplace injuries, and it’s made even worse on prime days when hours are longer with forced overtime and faster work speeds.

According to a report from the HELP committee, nearly half of all Amazon warehouse workers were injured during Prime Day in 2019.
