Vermont continues to navigate storm damage, road closures

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Strong thunderstorms and wind rattled our region Tuesday evening, leaving behind paths of destruction.

Stamford’s Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook that a strong storm knocked trees into roads, broke telephone polls, and left the whole town in the dark.

They say Green Mountain Power and local and state officals are helping to clean up. Stamford, as well as some other Massachusetts border towns like Readsboro and Halifax still had outages on Wednesday morning.

And after last week’s flooding many roads have reopened, but some damage isn’t a quick fix.

State officals say work is underway for a bridge on Route 2 in east St. Johnsbury near Severence Hill Rd.

Work is underway on a temporary bridge, but there is no estimate on when it will reopen.

Route 5 in Barnet is still closed in two places for bridge damage.

Route 2 in Plainfield, Route 100 in South Duxbury, Route 17 in Starksboro, and Route 102 in Canaan are also closed for bridge damage.

302 in Groton, Route 12 in Middlesex, and Route 17 in Addison are closed for washouts.
