WASHINGTON (WCAX) – Vermont Sen. Peter Welch is calling for a crackdown on big tech consolidating artificial intelligence.
In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, Welch joined other senators in calling for an investigation into a recent deal between Amazon and Adept, an AI startup.
Adept says that 66% of its employees were hired by Amazon.
In the letter, the senators said this consolidation could eliminate competition, avoid regulatory scrutiny and put the nation’s security at risk.
In January, Welch introduced the Preventing the Algorithmic Facilitation of Rental Housing Cartels Act of 2024, which would ensure housing corporations cannot use pricing algorithms to inflate rent.
