BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont is one of just two states that allow nonresidents to come here to end their own lives with medical assistance if they have fewer than six months to live.
The state changed the Death with Dignity law last year to allow out-of-staters to do what was only offered to Vermonters since 2014.
Alison Novak of Seven Days interviewed a Florida woman just a couple of days before she took the doctor-prescribed cocktail of medications to end her life in Vermont. Novak told our Darren Perron about Rita Mannebach and her decision to come to Vermont.
