LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – They’re back! The 25th Ironman competition kicks off this weekend in Lake Placid.
The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism says there are about 2,600 participants registered this year. That includes athletes from the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Australia. The oldest athlete is 80 and the youngest is 18.
The triathlon kicks off Sunday morning.
“We love Ironman and the spectators and the athletes, and it’s a great fit for our legacy as an international competition,” said Mary Jane Lawrence, the COO of ROOST.
