BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Now that the Republican National Convention is over, the 2024 presidential campaign is in full swing. Donald Trump officially accepted the Republican party’s nomination Thursday night, and tapped Ohio Sen. JD Vance as his running mate.
In his acceptance speech, Trump spoke about the importance of uniting the country, despite frequent sharp attacks on his opponents.
“I do think that in the campaign it should be focused on the issues. You know there is a lot of bad rhetoric in our political discourse these days and I think both (should) do everything to distance themselves from it, not contribute to it. These are profoundly important times and the American people are going to make a major decision in this presidential race,” Vermont Sen. Peter Welch said.
Welch has called on President Joe Biden to step aside and for Democrats to select a different nominee for president. When asked if he had anyone in mind, Welch said that it should be an open process.
