What people in our area think about Biden’s decision to leave race

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – People from across our region are talking about president Joe Biden announcing he’s ending his reelection campaign.

“I have to admit I’m a little surprised because I really did think it was going to be another Trump v. Biden so it really did take me by surprise but he’s really old so I do think it’s for the best that he stepped down,” Lilly Mearkley of New York said.

“I think it’s a good thing, it’ll help out a lot, especially cause we don’t have someone stuttering all the time,” Zachary Crouse of New York said.

“I thought he did extremely well as a president but one has to not only work as a president, but he also has to run for office… he doesn’t have the energy level or the vibrancy to run for office at this time,” Stephen Flanders of New Hampshire said.

“I feel conflicted about it, I don’t think he was the best candidate but definitely better than Trump,” Cassia Harting-Smith of Vermont said.

Some say they want Kamala Harris to take over the job.

“Harris is good with me,” Flanders said.

“I think she would be the best option just because she’s been in the white house, has that experience,” Harting-Smith said.

But some want someone else to step up.

“The most important thing to me is to have someone who is politically strong, and able to lead this country military wise and leadership wise,” Teressa Newland of Vermont said.

“I’m not a big fan of ms. Kamala Harris so I probably won’t personally be voting for her, but I did kind of expect for that to happen,” Mearkley said.

“Someone that knows what they’re doing and can like make everything equal again,” Crouse said.
