West Nile virus detected in Alburgh mosquito pool; no cases reported

ALBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) – The Vermont Department of Health mosquitoes collected in Alburgh have tested positive for West Nile virus.

It’s the first time this year the surveillance program has found them.

So far, no human or animal cases have been reported.

Most people do not get sick from the virus, but it can lead to serious illnesses, such as inflammation of the brain.

The state is also closely monitoring for the more deadly eastern equine encephalitis or EEE. No mosquito pools have tested positive for that yet this year.
