ENOSBURGH, Vt. (WCAX) – Investigators believe they have found the remains of a missing elderly woman from Enosburgh, but there are still many questions surrounding her disappearance.
Many in the community did what they could to help but there’s a sense of unease with the case still unsolved.
The search for Roberta Martin, 82, is over but many people still have questions about what happened to her.
“When we found out that she was missing, it really made no sense at all,” said Mary Tryhorn of Montgomery.
Trying to find a way to help share information about Martin, Tryhorn created a Facebook page to keep the community updated on search efforts and search groups.
“Once the Vermont State Police gave the go-ahead to begin conducting the community searches, it was pretty clear that there needed to be some organization. Sunday morning, my husband and I went to search. While we were out we saw several others who were also searching in the same area,” Tryhorn said.
Police say Martin was reported missing Wednesday after concern from family members and neighbors.
Troopers and members of the community spent three days looking for Martin in and around the area where she was last seen at her house on Butternut Hollow Road in Enosburgh.
Police called her disappearance suspicious, but they haven’t said exactly why.
Crime scene investigators have searched her home as well as a neighboring property. But police have not yet said what they found.
“I think that people have been reaching out to the family a lot, just showing their support in that way,” Tryhorn said.
Tryhorn says the social media group has been a way for locals to heal from the loss of Martin. But with unanswered questions in the case, safety is a concern for many.
“There was a lot of fear around like when are going to feel safe on that road,” Tryhorn said.
I reached out to the family for comment and they declined an interview.
