Scott Tyrell appears in court for Peru murder trial

PERU, N.Y. (WCAX) – A Peru man who is being charged with murder appeared in Clinton County Court for the first time Monday afternoon.

58-year-old Scott Tyrell is accused of killing 57-year-old Lisa Dashnaw of Peru.

prosecutors say Tyrell strangled Dashnaw sometime between March and May and hid her body in the trunk of a rental car for almost two months.

He plead not guilty Monday to second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse.

Tyrell was also without the neck bandage he previously wore and had a large scar across his throat.

Dozens of Dashnaw’s family members were also in the courtroom, including her nephew, who found Dashnaw in the trunk of the rental car at an Enterprise in Plattsburgh.

I hope he spends the rest of his life behind bars and he never sees the outside again. That means no rec time, no going outside, no none of that. Sitting in a cell and nothing else,” said Lisa’s nephew Larry Macey.

Tyrell will be back in court next month. He is now at the Clinton County Jail being held without bail.
