BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State Police have confirmed that the remains they found on Sunday were the remains of 82-year-old Roberta Martin.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington confirmed her identity after an autopsy was performed on her body, but they have not released a cause or manner of death.
In the same press release, state police mention an investigation into 23-year-old Darren Martell of St. Albans, a person of interest in the investigation.
They say when they were trying to locate Martell on Monday, they first located him in a wooded area near St. Albans Town School. When detectives tried to approach Martell, they found him publicly masturbating near a public walking path. When Martell observed detectives walking toward him, he ran into the woods, and the school went into lockdown.
He was eventually located and arrested, and while they say the arrest was not related to the Roberta Martin death investigation, they did not mention his original relation to the case.
