Vt. police departments issue warning about scam calls

SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) – Some Vermont police agencies are asking the public to keep an eye out for scam calls.

Authorities in Shelburne and Orange County say they have received reports about a man claiming to be a police officer trying to convince people over the phone that they had outstanding warrants or that they needed to contact departments about an “urgent legal matter.”

Police say they would never do this and that if you get a similar call, to hang up the phone.
