Senators Sanders and Welch express disproval of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to D.C.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Both of Vermont’s senators have released statements expressing their disapproval of the upcoming visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“In bringing Prime Minister Netanyahu to address a joint meeting of Congress, it will be the first time in American history that a war criminal has been given that honor.. this invitation to Netanyahu is a disgrace and something that we will regret,” said Senator Sanders in his statement.

Meanwhile, Senator Peter Welch said on the Senate floor earlier this evening that he will not attend the prime minister’s address, stating, “The International Court of Justice ruled that Israel’s decades-long occupation of the West Bank violates international law and amounts to annexation. The Court called on Israel to cease new settlement activity—which is also the policy of the United States— and I call on it to end the occupation.”
