ESSEX, Vt. (WCAX) – Authorities are looking for two people who they say injured an Essex police officer early Monday morning.
Essex police say the officer was investigating possible drug activity in a parking lot at Susan’s Place, a housing complex off Susie Wilson Road. When officers arrived, police say they tried to detain a man and woman, later identified as Mark Edward Sutton Jr., 24, of Williamstown, and Jasmine Brown, 21, of Randolph. Police say both resisted arrest, with Sutton aggressively pulling away and Brown kicking the officer in the groin. Police say Sutton then pinned the officer with his car as he fled the scene. Brown was also able to escape on foot.
Police say the officer suffered only minor injuries to his arms.
Investigators say Sutton has an extensive rap sheet and now faces additional charges of aggravated assault on a protected professional. Brown is wanted for failure to appear on burglary and cocaine possession charges, in addition to new charges of assaulting an officer.
A third person on the scene– William Stearns, 38, of South Burlington– was also being sought.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police in Essex at 802-878-8331.
