Flood recovery centers designed as one-stop shops for hard-hit communities

PLAINFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – State officials say flood recovery sites that are open in hard-hit towns are offering resources that can help people cope.

The centers include tables for the summer meals program, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and several state offices. There is also mental health support available through Washington County Mental Health Services.

Heather Slayton of Washington County Mental Health Services says taking care of mental health and self-care should not become a last priority during a crisis.

“Not being able to sleep, not remembering to eat, not being able to make decisions about what resource you might need, how to contact them, how to ask somebody else for help — those are all signs you need to slow down, take a breath and reach out,” she said.

The centers are open two days a week in Plainfield, Barre and Lyndonville, and on Thursdays in Hinesburg.

They will be open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. until mid-August.

  • Barre: Mondays and Fridays, Barre Municipal Auditorium, 16 Auditorium Hill
  • Plainfield: Wednesday and Sundays, Plainfield Health Center, 157 Towne Ave
  • Lyndonville: Tuesdays and Saturdays, Vermont State University, Grey House, 180 Vail Drive
  • Hinesburg: Thursdays, Champlain Valley Union High School, 369 CVU Road
