Plattsburgh gets funding for new multi-use lanes

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Sidewalks in downtown Plattsburgh will soon be expanded to make way for more bike lanes.

The Lake City is getting more than $1.5 million from the state to expand sidewalks on Court and Brinkerhoff Streets. The goal is to reduce emissions and encourage other modes of transportation by making the sidewalks multi-use paths, with lanes for bikes and for walking.

Paul Maggy, the owner of Maui North, a local bike shop, says he’s all for the new multimodal approach. “Anytime that they add more bike lanes or more biking in the area, I think is great. I think downtown is a difficult area to get to and from on a bike, so that might be good,” he said.

The city has not announced when the construction will get underway.
