Spotted lantern flies invade New York

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A warning out of New York about an invasive species that has officals in our region on high alert.

The spotted lantern fly is an invasive species that feeds on more than 70 plant species, including crops important to New York agriculture like grapes, apple trees, and hops.

The fly was first found in the New York metro area and has since been identified in the Finger Lakes.

During live presentations today on Facebook and Instagram, state officials will offer tips on how to manage the flies and keep them from spreading to other parts of the state.
