West Pawlet farmer cited for alleged assault of farmworker

WEST PAWLET, Vt. (WCAX) – The owner of a West Pawlet farm was cited for allegedly assaulting a migrant farmworker and a juvenile.

Vermont State Police say it happened July 3 at Deer Flats Farm owned by Richard Hulett, who is also a member of the town Select Board.

Investigators say Hulett was told there was a drug dealing attempt on the property. That led to an argument and they say that’s when Hulett, 45, assaulted Ulver Perez-Roblero, 30. Migrant Justice, which advocates for migrant farmworkers, says Perez-Roblero’s 15-year-old nephew was also assaulted by Hulett during the incident.

Hulett was cited on two simple assault charges and is due in court on Sept. 23.
