Rutland hosts National Night Out event

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – It’s National Night Out — a time to promote partnerships between the police and community.

Many local law enforcement agencies and first responders are hosting events to strengthen bonds to promote unity, safety, and collaboration.

The event was first held in the 1980s but didn’t make its way to Rutland until 2002. The Rutland Rec Department is hosting about 50 vendors Tuesday night at Meadow Street Park.

“Events like this — and being able to really connect in person and make those connections for all ages — really makes you feel more secure and safe in your community. But it’s great community-building, especially for our youth and families to see the police and interact and get to know them,” said Heather Broulliard, who helps run the city’s Partners for Prevention program.

A new touch-a-truck activity has been added to the usual free food and games for families.

Rutland’s event goes from 4 tp 7 p.m.
