Exotic animals bring wildlife education to the fair in Rutland

RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Organizers with the Vermont State Fair say they expect a large turnout for their final day, but one new attraction had a few different animals than most see at state fairs.

Wildlife Adventure Center, a Florida based zoo focused around wildlife education and conservation, was a first time addition to the Vermont state fair this year.

Vermonters got to see, touch and learn about the zoo’s reptiles, sloths and other animals that travel around the country hoping to expand on scientific research for more conservation efforts.

The zoo says it hopes to reach people who can’t visit their Florida location, and give them a chance to learn about the wildlife.

“Sometimes education can be dry, and we want to make sure that education resonates to the individual that they’ll remember for their lifetime, because its about making a difference with the animals, so we do have to give some performance, provide a little bit of thrills, but do it in a safe environment in a way that makes an impacting and profound difference for conservation,” Jim DeBerry of Wildlife Adventure Center said.

The fair wraps up Saturday night with a performance by Tyler Hubbard in front of the grandstand.
