Burlington Police identify suspect in Rotary Mart incident

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington Police have identified a suspect in an aggravated assault at a south-end convenience store Wednesday night that was initially believed to have involved a gun.

47-year-old James Spearman was taken into custody Friday. Police say a call came in around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday about a possible shooting at Rotary Mart on Shelburne Road.

An investigation revealed there was a fight between two people, and Spearman hit the victim in the head multiple times with a replica gun.

Burlington police say the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other information about the suspect was released and the investigation is ongoing.
