BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – As towns are still reeling and rebuilding from the devastating floods earlier this summer, FEMA’s disaster relief fund has run out of money.
Officials say there are still disaster relief funds available for individual Vermonters, but that municipalities are not able to access money to repair roads and bridges.
This week Vermont Congresswoman Becca Balint said small towns don’t have the capacity to fill out the paperwork required to access the funds.
“We have critically important work to do on the process itself, so the money is getting out the door to individuals, organizations, and towns that have experienced a great loss, not just in the flooding this past year but also last summer,” said Balint, D-Vermont.
Congress returns next week from their August recess where they’ll continue working on spending bills. Balint adds that she believes Congress will pass a continuing resolution to fund the government and FEMA.
