Pro-Palestine student group sues University of Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The UVM Students for Justice in Palestine group has filed a lawsuit against the school over the group’s interim suspension for allegedly violating campus policies during an encampment this spring.

The group said the lawsuit was filed against the school on Monday for what they call “egregious violations of its students’ civil rights.”

UVM says the group is on interim suspension for violating numerous campus policies in reference to the encampment this spring.

The student group says it was not a sponsor of the encampment, and it was a protest that should be protected by the First Amendment.

The group says the school has declined to meet with them about the suspension.

UVM’s website lists a decision on the suspension is pending the outcome of a misconduct investigation.

A spokesperson for the university declined to comment on pending litigation.
