BOLTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Many Vermonter’s are still wondering when congress will deliver FEMA flood dollars.
This summer’s floods caused damage to many roads, bridges, and culverts in communities across the state. Homeowners can apply for and access FEMA help.
But FEMA is unable to pay out to municipalities as it’s disaster relief program needs to be replenished by Congress which is tied up in a budget battle.
During a visit on recreational trails in Bolton, Sen. Peter Welch said he believes Congress will pass a budget and include funding for infrastructure.
“Of course we had terrible flooding here in Vermont but Texas had bad damage Hawaii had bad damage,” Sen. Welch said. “We are seeing a coalition in Congress of Republicans and Democrats that understand that the federal government has to refund the disaster relief program.”
Sen. Welch adds a longer term initiative to give towns and cities access to FEMA funds could take longer.
