PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – To celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, North Country officials want you to register to vote.
The nation’s supreme governing document was signed 237 years ago today.
In honor of that, SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College held voter registration drives.
At the community college, the League of Women Voters gave out pocket constitutions and information about how to register.
Members say it’s important for young people to understand the significance of making their voices heard on the ballot.
“Some people think, why bother? I am just one person. But it is all of those one persons adding up that decide an election. So, it is vitally important. I can not say it enough,” said Robin Brown, a member of the League of Women Voters of Northern New York.
The organization has more registration events in store as we approach November’s election.
