Burlington City Council passes downtown hub resolution

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Burlington City Council’s latest resolution will establish a public safety hub in Burlington’s downtown core.

Earlier this month, 4 resolutions were proposed by democratic city councilors meant to make the city safer – two of which passed.

One calls on the legislature to address gun safety and ban guns in bars, and the other will study raising the hiring cap for the Burlington Police Department.

On Monday night, a third resolution passed to establish the downtown public safety hub.

While it passed almost unanimously, some city councilors opposed the resolution, citing police staffing issues. Others questioned the efficacy of a public safety hub.

Under this resolution, a proposed location for the hub must be delivered by the Public Safety Committee by February 10, 2025.

A fourth resolution calling to renovate or rebuild the Burlington Police Department was postponed to the next city council meeting on October 7.
