BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s child care financial assistance program is increasing its income qualification levels, making it so more families are eligible for assistance with paying for child care.
Previously, a family of four would have to be making less than $124,800 to be potentially eligible for the program, while now a family of four would have to make less than $179,000.
The Department for Children and Families says the change provides more opportunities for families with young children. “Childcare is one of the major expenses that they have, and so assistance with paying for all or part of their child care bills can really help with family stability with the family’s ability to work long-term, with the children being able to get the developmental supports that they need,” Janet McLaughlin, deputy commissioner for the department, said.
Families can now apply online if they meet eligibility requirements, such as income and reasons for care.
