STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s Annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day is back for its fifth year.
The festival, held in Stowe, attracted people from all over that wanted to learn more about the culture from the state’s Nulhegan Abenaki tribe.
As many as a dozen vendors and speakers show off their hand made jewelry, whittling skills, and share the tribe’s history. Food, music, and crafts were also showcased.
With hundreds of attendees each year – the event hopes to spread the knowledge to the next generation. “This culture I feel like, we need to honor them, and we need to respect them. They have dwindled, the poor things. Anything we can do to support them. Whether its financially, be here in attendance. It’s a reflection of not letting the culture be lost,” said Katina Makris of New Hampshire.
Organizers hope to bring more vendors on for next year.
