Spring ski season could be hindered by infrastructure projects at Killington

KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The ski season hasn’t even start yet but Killington’s yearly goal of being the first to open and last to close could be in jeopardy this year.

That’s because the annual manufactured glacier on the Superstar Trail will not be happening this upcoming season. Part of the resort’s $30 million infrastructure improvements include a new superstar lift.

The quad will be replaced by a six-passenger chair.

Due to that, crews will need access to the trail in April, likely ending the skiing and riding earlier than usual.

“Unfortunately it will affect spring skiing. We are still figuring out the exact timeline. The plan is to make snow in the canyon and Snowden and on Ramshead to try to extend the season on those areas,” Brooke Geery said. “We will still be skiing until May.”

The cars on the Skyeship gondola are also being replaced as part of the improvements. A thousand new snow making guns are also being installed at a cost of around $7 million.
