Vt. education officials launch ‘Listen and Learn Tour’

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont education officials are holding a series of fourms on what the future of public education should look like.

Since her appointment, Interim Education Secretary Zoie Saunders has been touring the state to meet with school districts and local leaders to find ways to grapple with problems including declining enrollment, rising costs, and subpar achievement test scores.

At Governor Phil Scott’s weekly press briefing Wednesday, Saunders highlighted new funds for upgrades at the state’s career and technical centers and new literacy tools to help students be more proficient in reading and writing.

“The agency is fully engaged in this work and is fully committed with supporting our educational partners to create a high-quality public education system that taxpayers can afford,” she said.

The agency is also launching a Listen and Learn Tour from October 22 to November 6.
