Plattsburgh rallies to get out the vote

Plattsburgh, N.Y. (WCAX) – Show Up Plattsburgh and the Clinton County Democratic Committee held a get out the vote event at Trinity Park in the city’s downtown Saturday.

The rally was hoping to showcase support for Kamala Harris and local democratic candidates, and to encourage residents to register for the November 5th election. Registration ends in New York State on October 26th.

“Although we’re all here to support Kamala, the true reason is because she is the beacon of hope, of humanity and democracy,” JJ Murnane, an organizer with Show Up Plattsburg, said. “I encourage every voter, of any party that you identify with, to show up today.”

Organizers said the event also tried to garner support for proposal one, which would expand the state’s constitution and protect against discrimination.

“We want to stand with people that maybe don’t look like us, don’t pray like us,” Murnane said.

Others who attended showed their support for future generations.

“I’m here because, like Lynn, I have granddaughters, and I want them to have the same rights I’ve always had.” Lisa Rabideau, a Plattsburgh resident, said.

The event featured speakers from the area, a walk to the Broad Street commons and resources for how to register to vote.
